On June 4, 2021, Sharon McCarthy moderates a panel entitled “Parallel Civil & Criminal Investigations” at Quinnipiac University’s 4th Annual Criminal Tax Day. The Fourth Annual Criminal Tax Day is a conference that provides educational CPE/CLE sessions for CPAs, EAs, and attorneys on the hottest criminal tax topics.

Description: Just over a year ago the IRS announced the creation of a new Fraud Enforcement Office and Damon Rowe, a seasoned veteran of IRS Criminal Investigation, as its new Director.  Not long thereafter, the IRS appointed Carolyn Schenk as National Fraud Counsel.  On this panel, they will discuss the increased focus on fraud enforcement, the engagement and collaboration with the IRS operating divisions, and the efforts to develop strong civil fraud cases and fraud referrals to IRS Criminal Investigations.  The panel will also discuss risks to practitioners and taxpayers who may be subject to a criminal investigation they do not know exists.
